EDUC380: PERSONALIZED APPLICATIONS
OF HEALTH EDUCATION INFORMATION 
IN ADULT, CAREER TECHNICAL, VOCATIONAL, AND DESIGNATED SUBJECTS PROGRAMS

« ONE UNIT, FIFTEEN CLOCK HOURS «

 This course, when completed, meets the Health requirements for renewing the Ryan Designated Subjects Credential,
full-time, as follows:

Education Code, Section 44261: The minimum requirements for the teaching credential also include the satisfactory completion of a unit requirement in health education, including, but not limited to, emphasis on the physiological and sociological effects of abuse of alcohol, narcotics and drugs, and of the use of tobacco.

 Title 5, California Administrative Code, Section 80421: The health education requirement  specified in Education Code Section 44261 shall be required of each applicant for a full or clear teaching credential issued in accordance with the provisions of Section 44259 of the Education Code. This requirement may be satisfied by a course of study of at least one semester unit, or its equivalent, which may be offered or accepted by a college or university. The teacher education institution shall certify that the applicant has completed satisfactorily the required course of study.

  

COURSE DESCRIPTION 

 EDUC 380, Personalized Applications of Health Education in Adult / Career Technical / Vocational & Designated Subjects Programs, enables teachers to fulfill the credential requirement for Health according to Education Code Section 44261 and Title 5 Administration Code Section 80421.  Upon completion of this one semester unit course, participants will be able to provide specific information and encourage personal responsibility in matters related to drug abuse, alcohol abuse, effects of smoking & tobacco, and nutrition as well as research and locate local referral agencies for persons needing professional help with drug abuse recovery and alcohol counseling.  Further, they will be able to inform their students about the physiological importance of systematic physical fitness activities as well as increase student alertness to the prevention of and problems imposed by communicable diseases.
